INITIAL WRITING PHASE

At the start of the covid outbreak, I was in our winter home in Luz Tavira in Portugal with my second wife of only 2 years, Phyllis. My second wife Janet, of 50-year-marriage, had contracted Legionnaire's disease in Mallorca in 2008 and had died after a long illness. I had bought this property in 2004 and there we were not subject to the same restrictions as we would have been at our home in France. Fortunately, I could ride my bike wherever I wanted provided I was alone. There were no places allowed to open for a coffee or snack at that time. During these rides, I thought about what I was going to write about and arriving back at home I put pen to paper. I commenced writing in January, finishing in July, by which time I had the semblance of a collection of very different articles which I proceeded to put in the order I thought that they should appear in the book. On arriving in France, I proceeded to type out the various articles after many alterations on my computer. It helped as I was a touch typist passing a scholarship between the ages of 13 and 16 at Mexborough Technical School. WORD of course aided my spelling and punctuation. During this time, I must not forget that I had time to do some further research even after I had typed out the articles which, of course, were stored on WORD making the job much easier.
